  • Wayfinding

As part of the renovation of Zura Hall—an iconic residence facility at San Diego State University—Linespace partnered with HMC Architects to create a complete signage and wayfinding system. The goal was to reflect the building’s architectural transformation while improving clarity for residents and visitors navigating its vertical layout.

Linespace designed a visual system that reflects Zura Hall’s modernized architecture and its role as a gateway housing facility for first-year students. High-contrast identity signage creates strong, legible markers at key entry points, while the interior wayfinding system uses a clean, minimalist aesthetic that supports intuitive circulation across floors, common spaces, and amenities.

Room ID signs, elevator directories, and stair identifiers were developed using a consistent visual language with modern typography, tactile elements, and ADA-compliant layouts. Custom color blocking and floor-level graphics reinforce orientation in a vertical circulation model. Materials and finishes were selected for durability in a high-use residential environment while maintaining a contemporary student-facing aesthetic.

The result is a wayfinding system that balances visual impact and user simplicity—supporting the renewed identity of Zura Hall as a vibrant, accessible, and welcoming student living experience.
