The HUB

Culver City, CA

The purpose of the Culver City Transit District Streetscape Plan was to create design guidelines for  the streetscape in the vicinity of the Culver City Expo Line Station, and within an emerging Transit Oriented Development (TOD) district. Brought on by the arrival of the Exposition Light Rail Line (Expo) from Downtown Los Angeles to Culver City, a series of new developments have emerged near the intersection of Washington and National Boulevards.Working in collaboration with Ahbe Landscape Design and the City of Culver City, visually unifying the Washington/National Transit Oriented Development District with consistent paving, street furniture, wayfinding signage, and a new graphic identity was the goal of the project. Linespace provided several options for the naming and brand of this transit district. Per City stakeholder input it was recommended that the transit district be referred to as The Hub. The graphic identity provides a clue into the intermodal nature through transit icons and supporting visual elements. The initial introduction of the district identity was released as part of a street banner installation with a full permanent signage, wayfinding, and interpretive program to follow.
